With easy-to-follow steps, you’ll create a beautiful acorn that incorporates fun painting techniques and glass elements. Whether you’re new to painting or have some experience, this project is a great way to unwind and add a touch of charm to your home. Plus, it’s simple enough to complete in an afternoon, making it a perfect winter craft to enjoy.
Begin by painting the background with a base coat of white paint. Blend Camel into the upper portion of the canvas and Gray Storm into the lower area where your acorn will be positioned.
Next, secure your tracer to the canvas with tape, place a sheet of graphite paper underneath, and use a stylus to carefully trace the outline of the acorn.
For the acorn itself, paint the bottom section with Rusted Pipe and the top section with Camel. Use Traditional Burnt Umber to paint the acorn stem. Once complete, dry your work with a heat tool.
Apply a second coat of Rusted Pipe to the bottom of the acorn for a richer finish. Begin blending Traditional Burnt Umber and Camel in the center, following the natural curve of the acorn. Add subtle touches of light green, red, and orange.
For the top of the acorn, use Rusted Pipe to create swooping strokes, adding texture to this area. Layer Traditional Burnt Umber, Avocado, and Camel on top.
To emphasize the shadow under the acorn cap, use Traditional Burnt Umber on the corner of your brush and carefully apply it just below the cap. Add a second coat of Traditional Burnt Umber to the stem, blending white paint onto the top and left side for a highlight and black onto the right side for a shadow.
Finish by using a large brush to apply Traditional Burnt Umber beneath the acorn, creating a soft shadow to ground the piece.
Use a graphic pen to creat short, create strokes around your acorn to outline the main areas and add the texture on the cap.
Let's add our glass! Apply tacky glue to the acorn cap to keep your glass in place. Then, add bronze glass to the entire area.
We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1/2 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.
Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
