Bunny Cross 🐇

This mixed-media Bunny Cross canvas brings together painting, glass, and resin to create a beautiful spring scene filled with charm and sparkle! Follow along as we transform an 8x10 canvas into an Easter art piece featuring a fluffy bunny, hand-painted eggs, and a shimmering purple glass cross nestled in a bed of grass and florals.

Start with a layer of white paint across your entire canvas. Blend in soft colors: Buttercream Yellow in a circular “halo” at the center, Wisteria Purple on each side, and Hauser Light Green at the bottom for grass. Keep it light and dreamy! Use a heat tool to dry the background thoroughly.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the bunny with a stylus. Trace it slightly off-center so you have room for the cross. Paint the bunny white, then add gentle gray shading along the edges and in the ears to give depth. Layer two coats if needed for full coverage. Dry with a heat tool.

Use a liner brush to paint blades of grass using Hauser Light Green. Vary the direction, length, and thickness to make it look natural. Dry again.

Next, we'll work on painting our little Easter eggs! Use wood Easter egg cutouts from your local craft store. Paint one with Buttercream Yellow and the other with Purple Iris. Add stripes, squiggles, and dots with a small brush or the end of your paintbrush. Set aside to dry.

I'm also going to create a little flower crown on the bunny's head with little acrylic flowers. Before adding those, I'm going to paint leaves with Hauser Green Light and add tiny white highlights for dimension.

Grab your graphic pen and use short, quick strokes to outline the bunny and add some texture to the grass blades.

Let's build our glass cross! Take your three purple glass strips. Cut about an inch off one to create the vertical post. Use tacky glue to sandwich two pieces together for the cross base, then glue the remaining strips horizontally near the top.

Add purple glass shards around the base and a decorative glass chip at the center intersection for extra shine. Scatter green glass at the base around the bunny and under the cross. Tuck in your painted Easter eggs and secure them with glue. Use handmade acrylic flowers (or premade ones) to embellish the bunny’s head like a floral crown.

Next, we're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!

Finally, pile Crystal Luster seed beads onto the bunny’s tail. Add a drop of resin to secure them and press gently so they mound up for a fluffy 3D effect.
