Get ready to create a one-of-a-kind, textured pumpkin masterpiece! In this tutorial, we’ll layer warm fall colors, add depth with shadowing, and bring everything together with unique details like wooden leaves, pinecones, candy corn, glass, and resin. This is the perfect fall pumpkin to add to your decor this season!
Let’s begin with a neutral background by applying a coat of white paint to the canvas. While it’s still wet, blend in Delta Shadow Gray, using the brush to pounce and press the paint for added texture. Then, use a heat tool to dry.
Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the pumpkin with a stylus.
Now, let’s bring the pumpkin to life! I’ll be using Spiced Pumpkin, Georgia Clay, Sunset Gold, and white paint, working one section at a time. Start by covering a section with Spiced Pumpkin. Then, with the backside of a palette knife, swipe on Georgia Clay along one side, Sunset Gold in the center, and white on the opposite side. Repeat this technique for each pumpkin section, blending and layering the colors until you’re happy with the look. Once finished, dry with a heat tool.
Paint the stem using Traditional Burnt Umber. Add a shadow to one side of each pumpkin section by dipping the corner of your brush into the same color. Apply a second coat to the stem for added depth. For a highlight, load just the tips of the bristles with white paint and wiggle it along the stem.
To add extra charm, I’ll attach wooden leaves from Hobby Lobby, but first, I’ll paint them. Each leaf will get a blend of Sunset Gold, Spiced Pumpkin, Georgia Clay, and Hauser Medium Green. Let dry.
Using a graphic pen, I’ll outline the stem and pumpkin, adding short, quick strokes to make each detail pop.
Now, let's add glass! I am going to add Bronze Glass to the bottom of my canvas.
We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1.5 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire canvas. Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
Add resin to the front and back of your wooden leaves and tuck them into your glass. I'm also going to add in some mini pinecones, floral bits from Hobby Lobby, and pieces of candy corn that I found on Etsy. Add extra resin on top of the candy corn.
