Christmas on the Beach 🌊🎄

beach christmas Jul 23, 2024

Combine the festive spirit of Christmas with the serene beauty of the beach! We'll create a stunning beach scene with a Christmas tree. Adorn your tree with nipped clear vase glass pieces, mini seashells, and sparkling seed beads, all finished with a glossy resin touch. Perfect for beginners, this project is a fun mix of painting and glass art techniques that will add a unique coastal charm to your holiday decor.

I'm going to start by dividing my canvas into thirds - the sky, water, and sand. I'll use Sugared Peach to paint the bottom third of my canvas, using the flat edge of a large brush from left to right. Don't cover it completely, but leave some empty areas of your canvas for other colors. Grab some Oyster White and white paint and add those two colors in too. I'll also barely swish in gray paint on the two sides.

Next, we'll work on the sky. Turn your canvas upside down to make this easier! I'll add Spa Blue, white, and gray paint using the same technique. Then, I'll finish it off the background by painting the water in the same way. I'll use Laguna, white, and Desert Turquoise.

You want to be able to see all three of the colors on each section - not completely blend the three colors together. To make the waves in the water, dip your paintbrush into the white straight up and down so just the tips are saturated. Then, lightly pounce the color on to make your waves. I'll also add some blue coming up onto the sand. Dry with a heat tool.

Grab your tracer, tape it to the left side of your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your Christmas tree on with a stylus.

I'm going to take my gray paint with a round brush and pull the paint up to the center to create tree branches. I'll add Sugared Peach, Oyster White, and white paint on top using the same technique. These multiple layers of color will give your tree great dimension. Dry with a heat tool.

I have lots of pieces of nipped clear vase glass that I will be using on the tree. I also have a mini starfish painted white to add to the top of my tree.

I will use a little bit of tacky glue on my tree to keep the glass pieces in place. Then, I'll just start layering the clear glass pieces, starting with a layer of the biggest ones first and then layering smaller ones on top. Add the star to the top of your tree.

Next, I'll add Starfire glass to the right side of my sand area and then add some mini seashells.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1/2 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your canvas and glass using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times! Sprinkle Seafoam Lined Crystal seed beads onto your Christmas tree to create decorations (I have two different sizes!)
