Let Freedom Ring πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

We are using an 8x10 canvas to create a fun, rustic patriotic flag art piece! I'll be showing you how to get that rustic look using palette knives when applying our paint colors and also how to add some patriotic phrases. We'll also be adding glass and resin to finish the piece off. This is the perfect art project for the 4th of July holiday or anytime this summer!

First, start by sketching out the shape of a flag - the square in the top left corner and some stripes. I'm going to add a base coat of paint to my canvas using Prussian Blue, Cherry Red, and white paint. I'll also paint the sides of my canvas. This does not need to be perfect and doesn't need the best coverage because we'll be applying some paint on top of this. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, I am going to apply some paint to my white stripes. I am using red, blue, black, gold, and white and I'm applying this paint with a palette knife, and using the back of the palette knife to add the paint from right to left in natural, organic lines. You want to just barely tickle the paint onto your canvas. Dry with a heat tool.,

Now, we are going to do the same thing with the red stripes.

I'm going going to take some more of the Prussian Blue paint and add another coat to my blue square, and start pulling and blending that blue into the stripes a bit. I'll also add some of the lighter blue and white to that area as well. I'll just continue to add color and mess with it until I love it! Dry with a heat tool.

Now, we will add some details! I have a white Posca Pen and a gold DecoArt paint marker. I'm going to write "home of the brave" and "land that I love" and "let freedom ring" on my stripes with the white paint marker. Feel free to add phrases wherever you would like! I'll also add some gold detail lines in my stripes and gold stars in my blue square.

Next, we will add glass! I am using Blue Reflective glass that I will add just to the blue square of my flag.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1 ounce of resin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and spread it onto your canvas using your gloved fingers or brush.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
