Mardi Gras Oyster Art 💜💚

We are working on a 5x7 canvas to create a fun, beachy-themed Mardi Gras art piece! We will paint a simple background and add some Mardi Gras beads and shells. This one is great for beginners because it has minimal painting, no tracer, and we are adding glass, goodies, and resin! 

Start by painting the front and sides of your canvas with black paint. Dry with a heat gun. I'm starting with black because I am going to be using Metallic Gold on top, and black is a great base for that.

I am going to use a sponge brush to apply a coat of Metallic Gold. Pull your paint in one direction to make sure your metallic is nice and smooth. Dry with a heat tool and then add a second coat. On the sides of my canvas, I am going to alternate with purple and green stripes. Dry with a heat tool.

I have already spray-painted the back of an oyster shell gold. I'm also going to take an iridescent gold paint to add to the front, and I'll use Rub n Buff - Gold Leaf to add some gold to the edge of my shell. You can use your finger and simply rub it around the edge. 

Next, I'm going to arrange my glass and embellishments! I am going to add some Starfire glass as a base. I have Mardi Gras bead necklaces that I am going to cut and arrange onto my canvas. I'll also add my oyster shells. 

Remove your shells before you add your resin and then nestle them back in after. 

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1 ounce of resin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and spread it onto your canvas using your gloved fingers or brush. Add your shells back in and add more resin on top.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times! I'm also going to add a few gold beads and some gold foil flakes too.
