Transforming scrap glass into a whimsical melted snowman ornament is a fun and simple craft perfect for the winter season. With just a few tools and materials, you can create a unique decoration to add charm to your holiday tree or gift to someone special!
Begin by peeling the plastic film off one side of your acrylic round. This will be the front of your ornament. Next, apply a small amount of SnowTex to the round and spread it evenly to create a snowy base. Put this aside to dry.
To create your melted snowman, start by attaching a tracer to a piece of white sheet glass, and trace the two snowman shapes. Put on gloves and safety glasses for protection. Use a pair of wheeled nippers to carefully cut around the snowman shapes, taking small, irregular bits as you go. Next, use a honing stone to gently soften the edges all the way around. Wipe off any remaining tracer lines.
You should end up with two irregular pieces of white sheet glass and a white, round/flat gem that will serve as the melted snowman.
Dip the end of a paintbrush into black acrylic paint and gently dot two eyes and a mouth onto the white gem to create a face.
I have a small piece of scrap orange glass that I will use to cut out his carrot nose. Use your wheeled nippers again to cut a point into the glass (use a honing stone on it right away). Cut that piece off to create a triangle nose. I also have two small scraps of black sheet glass for his top hat and a red glass scrap for the scarf. Additionally, I have a piece of floral wire from a craft store that I will cut into two tiny sticks about 3/4 of an inch long to use as his arms.
Let's assemble our snowman! Press your largest white sheet glass piece into the SnowTex. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the other snowman’s body pieces and head piece. Press firmly to secure them in place. Next, add the snowman’s nose, hat, and scarf using glue. Glue the arms to the body as well as a few black seed beads for his buttons.
Let's add resin! Elevate your ornament and put on rubber gloves. Mix 1/4 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your ornament and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.
Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times! Finally, sprinkle Crystal Luster seed beads around the snow and background of the ornament. Once your ornament is dry, remove the plastic from the other side and add a ribbon to hang it!
