Pinecone 🌲
Let's bring the beauty of nature indoors! This project is the perfect way to capture the rustic charm of pinecones and branches while adding a touch of sparkle with reflective glass and resin. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or new to glass art, this tutorial will guide you step-by-step to create an art piece that combines painting and mixed-media techniques.
Paint your canvas with a coat of white acrylic paint. Next, grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your pinecone and tree branch with a stylus.
Use Traditional Burnt Umber to paint the tree branch, giving it some bumps and grooves to look like a real tree branch. While the branch is still wet, add Rusted Pipe down the middle to create depth. Use a small liner brush to add white paint along one side of your branch for a highlight.
Let's paint on the pine needles! Make sure your paintbrush is super wet and mix it around your green paint, giving it an inky consistency. Start at the base of the branch and gently pull your paintbrush out in different directions to create the pine needles.
Use a flat paintbrush to add a base coat of Rusted Pipe to the pinecone. While this is still wet, use Traditional Burnt Umber and white to add swoops of color to give the pinecone some texture and depth. Dry with a heat tool.
Let's add our glass! Add bronze reflective glass to the entire pinecone.
We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.
Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
