Pumpkin Head 🎃

I'm excited to welcome a special guest, Steve, as we team up to create a Halloween-inspired Pumpkin Head art piece! We'll guide you through each step, from blending the perfect background to adding character with highlights, shadows, and glass details that give it a unique pop. Whether you're decorating for Halloween or just love seasonal art, this project is a great way to get creative!

Begin by swirling white paint in the center of your canvas, moving outward in a circular motion until about 90% of the surface is covered. Then, switch to black paint, blending it in circular strokes from the edges toward the center, creating a gradient that’s darkest around the edges and lightens as it meets the white. Paint the sides of the canvas black for a seamless, finished look. Finally, use a heat tool to dry.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place white graphite paper underneath, and use a stylus to trace your pumpkin head man.

Now, let's add a base coat to all of his features! Begin by painting his shirt with white. Then, paint the suit lapels in black. While the black is still wet, add a touch of white paint to the outer edges of the lapels with the corner of your brush to create a highlight. Use this same technique on the remaining parts of his suit jacket. Finally, dry the paint with a heat tool.

Using a small brush, apply Sunset Gold to paint the eyes, nose, and mouth, then dry with a heat tool. Add a second coat of Sunset Gold, enhancing the features by adding Warm Sunset along the bottom of the eyes, nose, and mouth for depth, and use white paint on the upper areas for highlights.

Now, let’s focus on each section of his pumpkin head. Start with a base coat of Warm Sunset. While it’s still wet, blend in Red Spice to create shadows and use Sunset Gold for highlights. For added dimension, incorporate touches of Burnt Umber and Desert Turquoise. Repeat this for each pumpkin section. Paint your stem with Burnt Umber and blend in white on one side for dimension. Finally, use white paint to paint a line to create a pocket in his suit jacket. Dry again.

Use a graphic pen to outline his facial features with short, quick strokes. I'll also give him a few pinstripes on his shirt and outline around his jacket and lapels.

Paint a black spider dangling from the top of the canvas, blending a bit of white for added depth and definition. Use black to paint the spider’s legs and the web it’s hanging from, incorporating touches of white to enhance the details.

Now, let’s add some glass details! For the tie, I’ll use pieces of black sheet glass, carefully scored and cut, along with a black bead for the knot. Apply tacky glue to secure everything in place. I’ll add a small flower in the pocket and three black seed beads as buttons on the shirt, as well as a black seed beads to enhance the spider.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1/2 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire canvas.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
