Red Christmas Ornament ❤️

christmas winter Dec 11, 2024

Add festive sparkle to your art with this red ornament canvas! In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to create a shimmering metallic background, paint vibrant highlights and shadows, and elevate your piece with glass details and resin for a stunning, glossy finish.

Begin by painting the background and sides of your canvas with a coat of Metallic Pearl paint. Use smooth, even strokes in one direction to ensure a beautiful, uniform metallic shine. Dry the paint thoroughly with a heat tool.

Next, apply a layer of Enchanted Magenta over the Metallic Pearl, again pulling the paint in one direction. This will create a vibrant, shimmering pink effect for your background. Dry again.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the ornament with a stylus.

Start by painting the ornament with a base coat of Primary Red. Use a heat tool to dry it completely before applying a second coat. Once the second coat is dry, apply a layer of Metallic Red over the top.

While the Metallic Red paint is still wet, blend Metallic Pearl on one side for highlights and Metallic Black on the other for shadows, adding depth and dimension to your ornament.

Paint the top of the ornament with Metallic Black. I'll also paint the ribbon that my ornament is hanging from with Splendid Gold. Dry with a heat tool.

Use a graphic pen to add short, quick strokes around the ribbon and ornament to make your art piece pop.

Let's mix our resin and then we'll add in our glass goodies! We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1/4 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.

I have cut glass pieces from a red vase that I will add to my ornament to create a bow on the top. Add resin to both sides of the glass pieces and position them onto the canvas. I also have a round bead for the ornament topper loop and a round bead for the ribbon center. I have Tran Red vitrigaph that I will cut a few pieces from and add to my canvas coming from the bow.

Finally, sprinkle Crystal Luster seed beads on the left side of the ornament and Twisted Bugle Red beads on the right side. Add some extra resin on top.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
