Rudolph Reindeer 🎄
This reindeer project is the perfect blend of painting and glass embellishments, making it an eye-catching addition to your holiday decor. Starting with a simple painted base, you’ll bring your reindeer to life with layers of color and detail. Then, take it to the next level by adding vitrigraph glass antlers, clear glass, beads, and a glossy resin finish.
Begin by applying a base coat of white paint to your canvas, ensuring full coverage, and dry it using a heat tool. Next, position your reindeer tracer on the canvas, tape it in place, and slide a sheet of graphite paper underneath. Use a stylus to trace only the reindeer’s head.
Once traced, paint the reindeer’s head with a base coat of Rusted Pipe paint. After drying with a heat tool, apply a second coat for an even finish. Reposition your tracer and trace the facial details of the reindeer.
Next, I’ll paint the ears using Warm Beige. For the bangs, I’ll apply another coat of Rusted Pipe and blend in white paint to create highlights in that area. I'll also add white paint to the tops of the ears. Then, I’ll apply a second coat of Warm Beige to the ears, blending Cherry Red on the undersides and white paint on the inner tops for added depth.
The nose will be painted with Cherry Red, followed by a swipe of white to create a shiny highlight. Once complete, I’ll dry everything with a heat tool.
Then, I’ll use a graphic pen to outline the reindeer’s details with short, quick strokes, adding definition. Don’t forget to sketch in the eyes for the final touch!
Let's add our glass! I have some cut pieces of brown vitrigraph that I'll place on my canvas to create his antlers. Use tacky glue to keep them secure. Add a bit of tacky glue to the nose as well and add clear glass.
We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1/4 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.
Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times! Finally, sprinkle Crystal Luster seed beads onto the nose.
