Summer Snowman ⛄️

beach christmas summer Jul 31, 2024

Join me for a fun Christmas in July glass and resin art tutorial! We’re making a cute summer snowman on the beach using acrylic paint, mini starfish, starfire glass, small shells, and beads. This easy project is perfect for adding a touch of holiday cheer to your summer decor!

We are going to start by painting our background with a sandy beach on the bottom and a night sky on the top. Make a tick mark about 3 inches from the bottom. Paint this bottom area with Bleached Sand paint. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, cover this with painter's tape and we'll work on the top portion of the canvas. Paint a circular swirl of white paint in the center of your canvas. Blend in Bleached Sand, making the circle bigger. I'll do the same thing with Midnight Garden and Deep Midnight Blue. Swirl in some more white and Bleached Sand to bring it all together. Dry with a heat tool and remove the painter's tape.

Add a second coat of Bleached Sand to your bottom area, blending in some white paint as well. Dry with a heat tool.

Mix water with white paint, dip an old toothbrush into the mixture, and run your finger along the bristles above your canvas to create falling snow. Dry again.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace your snowman with a stylus.

Paint the body of your snowman with Bleached Sand. Add Driftwood underneath his scarf and on the left side to create some shadowing. Add white paint on the right side. Do the same thing for the bottom and top of his body too. I'll use Tropical Blue to paint the hat and Cherry Red for the scarf. Dry with a heat tool.

Use Traditional Burnt Umber to paint the tree branch arms.

Next, add a second coat of blue to the hat, using white for highlights and Midnight Garden for shadows. Add a second coat of red to the scarf, using white for highlights and Tradiitonal Burnt Umber for shadows. Paint the trim and ball on his hat with white paint.

Paint the carrot nose with Warm Sunset, adding white to the top and Traditional Burnt Umber to the bottom. Next, I'll use a stylus to dot on his mouth and eyes with black paint. Add a second coat of white to the hat trim and hat ball, blending in some Midnight Garden.

Finally, create a shadow under your snowman by painting some Driftwood, and then blending in Midnight Garden and white paint. Dry with a heat tool.

Let's add glass! I am using Starfire glass on the bottom of my canvas. I also added clear beads for the buttons down his middle and a nip of clear glass on the nose.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Mix 1 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your canvas and glass using your gloved fingers or brush.

Add mini starfish above his head and some shells and mini starfish in the Starfire glass too. Add extra resin on top. Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
