Vintage Blue Ornament πŸŽ„

christmas winter Dec 04, 2024

Vintage Christmas ornaments have a timeless charm, and this project will help you capture that magic with a beautiful blue ornament! It’s a simple and fun way to add a festive touch to your holiday decor. We'll be incorporating lots of fun glass goodies like bugle beads, glass vase pieces, and blue vitrigraph.

I’ll start by creating a metallic background. First, I’ll paint a coat of Metallic Pearl White, adding texture by brushing in different directions. Then, I’ll swipe Metallic Taupe up and down across the surface, followed by Metallic Ice Blue. Finally, I’ll dry it with a heat tool.

Grab your tracer, tape it to your canvas, place graphite paper underneath, and trace the ornament with a stylus.

Start by applying a base coat of Metallic Teal to the ornament and let it dry. Next, paint the ornament topper with Slate Gray. Once dry, add a second coat of Metallic Teal to the ornament for full coverage, and dry again. Finish the topper with a coat of Metallic Sterling Silver.

To add dimension, blend Metallic Ice Blue on the left side of the ornament to create a highlight, and add a touch of black paint on the right side for a subtle shadow effect.

Paint the ribbon hanger with Metallic Taupe, and let it dry. Next, create a curved stripe across the middle of the ornament using white paint, and dry it with a heat tool.

Apply a second coat of white paint to the stripe, dry again, then layer on a coat of Metallic Champagne. Blend in touches of Metallic Sterling Silver and Metallic Pearl White for extra shimmer, and dry once more.

To add depth, use a bit of black paint on the right side of the ornament topper and ribbon to create a subtle shadow. Finish with one final round of drying.

Use a graphic pen to outline the ribbon and ornament, adding definition and making the details stand out. Use short, quick strokes for an intentionally imperfect, textured look.

Next, it’s time to add some sparkle! Apply tacky glue to the stripe on the ornament, then press silver bugle beads into place. Before adding any more glass embellishments, we’ll seal it all with a layer of resin first.

We're going to elevate our canvas using blocks. Put on rubber gloves. Mix 1/4 oz total of ArtResin and stir gently for three minutes. Pour the resin onto your glass and canvas and use your gloved fingers or brush to spread it over the entire piece.

I’ve cut pieces of glass from a mercury/white vase to craft a ribbon bow for the top of the ornament. To attach the pieces, apply a small amount of resin to each side of the glass and press them onto your canvas. For the center of the bow, I’ll use a donut bead.

Next, I’ll incorporate Aqua Blue vitrigraph. Coat the vitrigraph pieces in resin using gloved fingers, then position them radiating outward from the bow for added flair. Finally, I’ll enhance the stripe with a few more bugle beads and seal everything with an additional layer of resin.

Use a heat gun to pop your bubbles. Keep your heat moving at all times!
